This grant programme is funded by Cancer Equality to help community organisations/charities host an event during Ethnic Minority Cancer Awareness Week (EMCAW) between 11- 17 July 2011.* The aim of the event must be to raise awareness about any cancer, its risk factors, signs, symptoms, possible prevention and treatments. The event should be aimed at Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) communities. A small grant will be awarded of up to £250.

* If you are proposing to hold your event outside of the dates please contact us to discuss.

The aims of the EMCAW Grant Programme

To be successful in securing an EMCAW grant the event must meet at least one of the aims listed below:

  • Working with BME people and communities to raise awareness of cancer, especially amongst those who are less likely to access services
  • To reduce health inequalities and help improve quality of life for people affected by cancer
  • To increase awareness of the risk factors for developing cancer
  • To encourage patient-led and community-led activity by helping people at risk or with cancer to take control of managing their health
